Secure Retail Store Network System Design and Implementation
Scenario Description: Secure Retail Store Network:
The IT Management Team at ‘ABC retail store, nationally known retailer with a retail store site in Liverpool at the shopping complex, has to upgrade the network and network management facilities at its retail outlets, including the local Liverpool site. The expectation is that the network should support the following minimum business requirements and activities at each retail site including Liverpool a building measuring roughly 100m x 50m over two floors, there are ‘Front Desk’ customer service facilities with a minimum of 10 manned check-out stations using wired or wireless connections internally within the building. Located close to each of two main customer entrances and exits there are also a minimum of four unmanned "Rapid Check-out" stations. Provision is needed of Wi-Fi in all public areas– front desk, main floors, café and toilets. Retail items such as coats, suits, jackets and dresses, children’s clothing, homeware items, cosmetics, watches and a range of food and sundry items are available. Facilities are needed to allow customers to pick up and pay for purchases reserved online.
You should suggest other related advanced application solutions requiring extra network features and management facilities such as electronic key entry to store-rooms, or optional high speed Wi-Fi in public areas available at extra cost and other advanced features. The network must have security measures for confidentiality and integrity, such as access control, port security, wireless security, virus scanners and firewalls.
There should be a WAN network connection to the nearest regional HQ located at a regional retail site 50km away near Birmingham, as well as a connection to the company Head Office (HO) situated in London. HO is the centre of a hub and-spoke WAN network to all regional HQs and retail sites nationwide. There is a web server managed by HO with features such as the retail catalogue with details of all retail sites and items, special offers, goods that can be ordered via the e-commerce facility and retail availability enquiries.
- Analyze and document a network design, including evaluation of efficient IPv4 schemes, allocation of IP addresses to all relevant devices, and evidencing performance analysis.
- Justify carefully any necessary additional assumptions including giving justifications and clarifications of the networks' business requirements described in the scenario
- Explain the method you have used to design the solution
- Allocate, document and critically evaluate at least one LOGICAL IPv4 IP scheme, optionally using VLANs for appropriate network segments, including in your analysis, justifications and explanations
- Draw LOGICAL diagrams for your network design with the IP design scheme made clear
- Draw PHYSICAL diagrams showing location of all network devices with some end devices included as examples
- Provide the customer with details of network devices required.
- Evaluate design issues for management of the network that link the organizations’ sites using WAN technologies
- Make suggestions for innovative features such as fault prevention and security that enhance the networks' capabilities
The network topology below satisfy the user requirements above and everything is verified, tested and working fine.
